The Beginning: 1999
The story of Redeemed Gospel Church Subukia began in 1999 as a Home Bible Church in Subukia. Rev. Shadrack Muiruri Kamau began serving as the leader of the Home Bible Church during this early period.
What began as a small gathering would later develop into a Redeemed Gospel Church branch and eventually grow into what is now known as RGC Subukia Cathedral.
Becoming a Redeemed Gospel Church Branch: 2001
In 2001, the church was registered as a branch of Redeemed Gospel Church. This marked an important stage in the development of the congregation and its relationship with the wider Redeemed Gospel Church family.
Following the transition from a Home Bible Church into a Redeemed Gospel Church branch, Rev. Shadrack continued his ministry journey within the wider church organization.
The Early Years: 1999–2005
From 1999 to 2005, the church operated from different rented locations within Subukia. These years formed an important part of the congregation's early journey as the church established itself and continued growing.
Acquiring Property: 2006
In 2006, the church purchased its own plot. This represented an important step from operating in rented premises toward establishing a permanent home for the congregation.
A New Location: 2011
In 2011, the original plot was sold and the church acquired two other plots in Subukia, where the church is currently based.
Growth and Development of the Church
Over the years, the congregation grew from its early beginnings into a thriving church community in Subukia. One of the major developments in the church's journey was the construction of a 500-seater church building, providing a larger space for worship, fellowship and ministry.
2024: Consecration and Installation to Service
On November 16, 2024, a significant milestone was reached in the ministry journey. Rev. Shadrack Muiruri Kamau and Pastor Salome Muiruri were Consecrated and Installed to Service.
The occasion marked an important stage in their continued service within the wider Redeemed Gospel Church family and reflected the development of their ministry and leadership responsibilities.
Following Rev. Shadrack's service as Subregional Overseer of the Nyahururu Subregion, Redeemed Gospel Church Subukia became known as RGC Subukia Cathedral. This marked another significant stage in the development of the local congregation and its place within the wider Redeemed Gospel Church family.
Growth Into a Cathedral
The designation of RGC Subukia Cathedral represents an important part of the church's development from its early Home Bible Church beginnings into an established congregation and ministry centre serving Subukia and the surrounding areas.
The journey reflects years of worship, Bible teaching, evangelism, fellowship, community service, leadership and ministry development.
Growth of the Congregation
According to the church's historical account, the congregation grew from three members to several hundred over a period of approximately 15 years following its commissioning as a Redeemed Gospel Church branch.
This growth reflects the continued development of the congregation and the ministry's presence within Subukia and the surrounding community.
Church Planting and Ministry Expansion
RGC Subukia has also contributed to the expansion of ministry beyond its main congregation.
The church planted RGC Shamanei and RGC Munanda in Kahiga.
Joppa Home Bible Church also developed into what is now RGC Munanda. In addition, nine Home Bible Churches serve Subukia town and its surrounding areas.
Evangelism and Evangelistic Crusades
A City of Refuge
Evangelism has remained an important part of the ministry of RGC Subukia. The church holds evangelistic crusades multiple times throughout the year, going out into Subukia and surrounding areas to share God's Word with the people of Subukia and invite the wider community to hear the Gospel.
The phrase A City of Refuge is prominently associated with the church's evangelistic ministry. These crusades take the Gospel beyond the regular church setting and form part of the church's wider ministry of evangelism and community outreach.
